Podcast Bros. What could go wrong?

@tobias You should start a podcast along the same vein

I was thinking @Ted and I should co-host a podcast. Or he should host it and I could be a guest on it. That would be fun. If that idea has legs we could start a new topic to brainstorm how it might work!

My plan is soon to start weekly office hours, which would be off the record but people could propose topics ahead of time that they are interested in talking about or problems they need to learn about, and then I’d write up a summary and how-to topics coming out of it.

Seriously, I’d be willing to try a limited run — 4 episodes. I’ve always wanted to learn how to do it, but I never wanted to commit to doing it on an ongoing basis.

I have the audio editing skills from home recording music.

I think this is a terrible idea! Let’s do it! :face_with_tongue:

I’ll split this off into its own topic so we can brainstorm what this might look like.

It doesn’t have to “look” like anything. Just hop on a call, record it and publish.

FWIW, many moons ago I did a podcast with one of my friends/colleagues. We did 10 episodes. We’d just hop on a Skype call and talk about stuff, each of us recording their side. I think we tried to keep it around 20 minutes, not sure we managed. Sure, it was another time, but making a podcast doesn’t have to be complicated. Think of it as a panel conversation at a conference, just… recorded!

It looks like some episodes might still be online (pretty sure I have copies somewhere, but that’s another topic): https://freshlimesoda.wordpress.com (btw, anybody interested in the freshlimesoda.net domain name ?)

Wow! Looks like that podcast would be very useful for me right now:

Steph is very busy at the moment organising Going Solo, a conference to be held in Lausanne, Switzerland on 16th May and addressing the issues surrounding freelance work and life. If you’re a freelance, or thinking of leaving your job to go solo, you should definitely take a look!

and also relevant for my efforts over the years to manage a cat-infested household:

Suw is equally as frantic, having just launched a new blog, Kits and Mortar, which follows her up the learning curve as she find out how to plan and build her own green, cat-friendly house. If you’re a cat lover, or you’re into self-build or sustainability, check it out!

The photos from flickr are golden!

Serious time machine stuff! FWIW the Going Solo videos are probably still online if you want to watch the talks

You are competing with the world cup now for my attention! :soccer_ball: :monkey: Is there one in particular that you recommend as a good example?

Honestly… it was nearly 20 years ago, I’d have to go and check out the programme first to tell you!

Bedtime here

I’ll have a look tomorrow, ping me if I forget :face_with_head_bandage:

Hre’s a podcast I started watching, that I enjoy:

Some notable things about it:

  • very regular - weekly on Thursdays
  • engaging, opinionated interviewer who promotes herself and her business very proactively throughout the process
  • always interviewing a different person/expert/vendor
  • mix of talking and shared browsing/demoing
  • hosted live on linkedin
  • lightly edited video posted with an engaging blog post shortly after live event
  • calendar organized into “seasons”

This is all very overkill to start and likely they didn’t start with this much process. But the regular weekly schedule and live event is interesting because likely there are alot of people who just have it in their calendar to show up. Because it’s on linkedin they probably also have alot of randos showing up to watch parts of it and then following the company and watching the whole recording later, and watching more recordings thereafter.

Another example is Upcoming Topics for AI Office Hours for Nonprofits - IT4Causes which I attended once. I’m inspired by this to add weekly office hours to my services. But I don’t intend to record them and want to offer them as informal hands-on support. It was funny because the one time I attended I was the only person and got the benefit of a whole slide presentation! I think this is way too much effort. (I thought they were recording them at least but I am not finding them anywhere)

Upcoming Topics for AI Office Hours for Nonprofits

April 17, 2026 by it4causes

Every Friday at 11AM EST, we’re doing AI Office Hours! We’ll spend 15 minutes on a focused AI topic — practical stuff like automating repetitive tasks, using AI tools for donor communications, understanding what your data is actually doing, or evaluating new tools before you commit. Then we open it up for 45 minutes of open Q&A. Bring your questions, your confusion, and your half-baked ideas. There are no dumb questions here.

Upcoming topics for the next few sessions are as follows:

4/17/26 — Microsoft Copilot Office Hours Is Microsoft Copilot worth it for your nonprofit? We’re breaking down features, licensing tiers, how nonprofit pricing works, and what you actually get for free. Join us at AI4Causes.org and bring your questions — 45 minutes of AMAAI (Ask Me Anything AI).

4/24/26 – Grant Research will focus on setting up a process to look for appropriate grant opportunities for your orgnazation.

5/1/26 — Google Gemini Office Hours Google Gemini is evolving fast — and nonprofits need to know what’s available, what it costs, and whether it belongs in your AI toolkit. Join the conversation at AI4Causes.org and come ready with questions for 45 minutes of AMAAI: Ask Me Anything AI.

5/8/26 – AI Policy for Nonprofits We’ll provide an overview of why you should have an AI policy, and what might look like. We’ll also demonstrate how to use the AI Policy Generator at AI4Causes.org to generate a draft AI policy for your nonprofit to use as a starting point.

5/15/26 — Claude for Nonprofits Office Hours Anthropic’s Claude has serious nonprofit potential — but how does the pricing stack up and what can it actually do for your org? We’re covering features, benefits, and how to get the most value. Bring your questions to AI4Causes.org for 45 minutes of Ask Me Anything.

Use the button below to register for the sessions, and we hope to see you there!

That’s very formal, we should look out for something casual

A limited run would be very instructive. You would be put in the position of articulating digital sovereignty in real time, and spitballing against real world scenarios. Even if the recordings never captured an audience, I would expect some very natural sounding quotes to come from the discussions.

I find that many people articulate better when they are not thinking about writing, but when they are just having a natural conversation.

Very true. I can’t count the number of times I find myself in a conversation about an important topic thinking “dang, I wish I were recording right now!”
