East African Idea Jam: How Do We Move Beyond Inherited Western Assumptions and Design for East African Realities?
Trust in many African contexts is relational and collective, while most circumvention frameworks are designed around Western, individual models of trust. Join us to brainstorm what building trust and scaling circumvention solutions for East African communities can look like via an ideation jam! Together we will discuss what makes a safety tool desirable and sticky enough that communities at risk keeps using it, and how much of that is carried by branding, language, and local framing rather than the tool itself. Participants will also share thoughts on what a successful, trust-based campaign could look like.
