Digitally sovereign budgeting tools for ADHD people

Asking for a friend. Seems alot of the options out there involve apps. Would be nice to find something in the nextcloud ecosystem (Nextcloud Budget looks promising - but still in beta) or at least self-hosted open source.

A budget tool for our family

What I’m looking for: A budgeting tool to help our child learn to manage their money.

Desired specs:

  • Easy UI, good for ADHD, simple
  • Directly links to bank accounts
  • Provides budget advice/nudges as well as data
  • Privacy! Doesn’t sell ads or sell our data

Possibilities

https://www.ynab.com/

YNAB is highly recommended by lots of reputable folk and seems to have good privacy policy. Signing up for one account allows you to offer accounts to other family members; you can link as people offer permissions.

Budgeting App with Flex & Category Options | Monarch

Monarch seems like a good option for the family, although it may be more sophisticated that our child needs.

Features | Cake Budget

Cake is at the other end of the spectrum. It’s intentionally designed for users with ADHD, but might be a bit too gen z for the parentals.
