The spread of authoritarian regimes and their hunger for concentrated power are fuelling an unprecedented rise in human rights violations, armed conflict, crimes against humanity, and environmental destruction — all marked by increasing violence against women, minorities, investigative journalists, migrants, and environmental defenders. Autocrats, along with traffickers, organised crime networks, enablers, and kleptocrats, will stop at nothing to secure their impunity.

As we concluded the 21st International Anti-Corruption Conference in Vilnius, Lithuania in 2024, more than 2,000 participants from over 140 countries and all walks of life agreed: the urgency of our mission has never been greater — and neither has our resolve.

Hope endures — and grows — everywhere. Movements for integrity, justice, and regeneration are rising. From climate defenders to whistleblowers, indigenous leaders to investigative journalists, young changemakers to business leaders, public servants to global decision-makers — people of integrity are uniting to reclaim good governance, rebuild trust, and fight for systems and institutions that serve the many, not the few.

Amid the dangerous challenges humanity faces, our unity, purpose, and determination to regenerate and protect the fabric — and moral compass — of our societies have never been more essential. Together, we can rebalance power so that our shared future is not distorted by the interests of the corrupt but driven by the common good.

Under the theme Igniting the Power of Integrity, the 22nd IACC — to be held in Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, from 1 to 4 December 2026 — calls on all people of integrity from every region of the world, across the public and private sectors, civil society, media, academia, and younger generations to unite to stand up for our shared vision of a world free from corruption.

Together, we can forge stronger alliances, define bold and innovative strategies, and unleash the power of integrity as a guiding force in politics, justice, business, and finance — from the global to the local. For the world we want.

I am considering going to this if I can swing it! The timing is not great, travel to the Dominican Republic is not easy from Seattle, and there is a registration fee ($600). My father @peigen typically is part of it and has been wanting one of his children to attend for years! Today I spoke with Rafsanjani, an old friend from Kabissa days and founder/ED of CISLAC in Nigeria, and he also will be there and encouraged me. A close family friend is from the Dominican Republic and I’ve never had an opportunity to go there, so that might be a reason as well. At the ntc last year I met someone from Santo Domingo too who I could try to reconnect with.

Looking at the participants list there are some promising names and faces that I’d love to meet and hear from:

• Kumi Naidoo, formerly head of CIVICUS, Amnesty and Greenpeace
• Mandeep Tiwana, current secretary general of CIVICUS. CIVICUS is a great NGO network that has always made good use of open source, and promoted it. Including civicrm .. would be curious to learn where they are at with it.
• Ava Lee, ED of People vs Big Tech. I have not heard of this before but it obviously is strongly aligned with digital sovereignty!
• Stina Ehrensvärd, founder of Yubico which makes the yubikey, and a driver behind FIDO/Passkeys.

There is a tech track that looks promising:

The future is constantly unfolding in the present. The race between tech giants has reached extraordinary speed and autocrats, criminals and the corrupt are wielding cutting-edge technology – such as deep fakes, high-tech surveillance, and large-scale disinformation strategies, all fuelled by artificial intelligence – to generate profits and perpetuate their power.

At the same time, we are adopting technology solutions and strategies to embrace the immense challenges and opportunities we face these days. This track will take stock of our progress in this field and showcase innovative tech-based strategies towards a humane and ethical future.

Unfortunately the call for workshop proposals closed already in February, so I won’t be able to submit one. But maybe I can ask if I can help out with a workshop that has already been accepted - unfortunately the program is not yet online and there is no immediately obvious place to go to offer to help.
