Fairapps

I was exposed to fairapps.net at fediday and went to have a look. fairkom is an IT consulting firm based in the Austrian alps that provides a suite of open source apps under a single login, hosted by them. I’ve created an account and will take a closer look. I think the approach is quite strong, though personally I am still committed to helping people to self-host the “official” versions of open source software on servers they control themselves.

“Co-hosting” is a concept I am also exploring, in which people who trust each other implicitly can come together to host what they need on the same server, maintained by one or a small team of people familiar with (or willing to learn) the skills and habits required. faircom appears to be doing this according to the below, which describes how it is run “democratically” by its members and is not responsible to shareholders.
