Digital Independence Day is the first Sunday of every month!

From the website:

Switch to the good side every first Sunday of the month!

Our digital lives are in the hands of a few ultra-rich individuals. Through the monopolistic positions of their companies, people like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg dictate worldwide how we get our information online, how we discuss issues and communicate, or do business. No individual or business should have such unchecked influence, because if they do, we are no longer free. The good news is: At the moment we are giving them this power, and we can take it back!

Digital Switch Recipes

We’ll show you quick and easy ways to say goodbye to Big Tech. But there’s also a range of other options which are just as good: We put together a list of more options on a separate page.

More digital switch recipes will be posted each DI.DAY. If you’d like, you can subscribe to these recipes via an RSS feed.

I’m really loving this initiative. I get the newsletter each month, and it’s full of fun and invitingly written “recipes” for all of us (ordinary people included) to switch to digitally sovereign alternatives for everything we do online. It’s mostly in German and they are looking for people to help with translation to english. There’s also a handy faq explaining the initiative and, among other things, why digital independence is important to strive for. This is actually something I want to see us doing more of here too.

The next di.day is this coming Sunday, 5 July and is focused on video calling and online shopping. Here’s a screenshot of the latest newsletter, which you can read here (it’s in German).
